Ready-to-Drink Heritage Cocktail
“The Mulligan” Ready-to-Drink Cocktail is inspired by the man, the legend, and the era that shaped modern hospitality.
David B. Mulligan — known as the Dean of North American Hospitality — presided over some of the most storied hotels in history. During his tenure at the Waldorf Astoria, the cocktail culture of Peacock Alley flourished. Historical review of the Waldorf Astoria cocktail lists from the 1920s — created under Mulligan’s stewardship — has helped inform the direction of this recipe.
This Ready-to-Drink expression is designed to reflect that golden age of elegance: refined yet approachable, disciplined yet celebratory. It honors the heritage of a hotelier who understood that a cocktail was not merely a drink — it was an experience.
As recently as the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, a “Mulligan Cocktail” appeared on menus — proof that the name continues to circulate in sporting and social culture alike. The Mulligan is often imitated. The authentic expression, however, traces back to family tradition and legacy.
The final recipe is currently being refined to balance historical authenticity with modern craftsmanship. When complete, The Mulligan RTD will carry forward the character of a man who helped define hospitality across North America.

The Mulligan Estate Premier Prohibition Rye Whisky celebrates David B. Mulligan’s legacy during one of the most paradoxical eras in hospitality history.
Prohibition reshaped American hotels, forcing adaptation, creativity, and quiet resistance. Mulligan was a known opponent of Prohibition, speaking candidly about the unintended consequences of the law on both society and the hospitality industry. Despite legislative constraint, he remained a respected and influential leader among New York City’s hotel elite.
This Premier Rye pays tribute to his Canadian heritage — where whisky craftsmanship remained alive during America’s dry years — while honoring his standing as Dean of North American Hospitality.
Had this expression existed during his era, it would have been at home in the finest bars of the hotels with which he was associated:
